About MD Design MD Design is a partnership of Mark Devine, Principal Design Partner & Gail Devine, Principal
Managing Partner.
Mark has been involved with the design and preparation of construction drawings since 1976 while working as project
manager for various Bay Area Architectural firms which include Hammill & McKinney Architects & Engineers, Jerry
Loving Architects, HDO Architects & Planners, and Hallmark Design Group. Mark has more then 30 years experience
working on various project types, ranging from single and multi-family homes to office buildings, shopping centers,
restaurants and hotels. Gail handles all aspects of managing the business as well as research, data collection, and 3d
rendering. MD Design was founded with the purpose of pursing Mark’s dream to focus only on the single family home.
Homes not designed based on a market survey of what the average person needs or wants, but homes designed instead to meet
the specific needs and wants of individual home owners. Homes are personal; houses are not.
Design Philosophy of Mark Devine The single family home, designed to meet the home owner’s personal needs and
wants, is what Mark believes to be his most important goal as an designer. Homes meant to provide for the specific
functions of living and working spaces while still expressing the taste and style of the family that lives in it. Different people
have different priorities and tastes; so not everyone has the same needs for a home. With this in mind Mark feels it is
important to get to know his clients and understand their wants, needs and tastes. "It’s not my job to tell people what they
should have but to help them find what they want and need to have!". If he can give a family “their home”, then he feels he has
achieved goal as a designer.
